Cohen steps down

This is just in: Job Cohen steps down as PvdA leader.

This cannot but help the social-democrats. As Cohen himself admitted, he has been insufficiently able to create a good profile for the PvdA.

Especially last week, there was a lot of criticism of him, both from the left and from the right. New party chairman Spekman wants to turn the PvdA left, while another faction led by MP Timmermans want to steer the PvdA back right to Purple waters.

No hint of a successor yet. Even worse: no clue whether the successor is going to be appointed internally or whether there’ll be a party-wide election, as Spekman wants.
