Maintaining this site is a labour of love, but I need to live, too. So I ask for your donation, if you think this site is worth it.
Researching and writing the statistics and linkbait posts takes quite a bit of work, and getting some money for them helps me a lot to defend writing them against my scroogy self.
Then there’s the matter of priorities. My mobile research is a crucial part of my day job and I’ll happily spend more time on it than I’m contractually obliged.
My older desktop research, however, isn’t really important to me any more, and I don’t feel like updating these old tables every quarter for free. It takes me about five to seven days of full-time work, and the tables don’t return anything on that investment.
In June 2011 I raised a lot of money in one afternoon through a targeted donation drive, and as a result one desktop table update was paid for by the community. The speed surprised me mightily, and it proved that people are (apparently) willing to pay some money for this site — every now and then.
So that’s it, really. If you feel this site has saved you time, consider a slight (or not-so-slight) donation. If you don’t, don’t. It’s your choice. This site will not disappear without donations, although it may be updated less often than you’d like.
And my ambitious Project X needs a lot of money, so if you want to know what it is, donate.
