Fronteers 2009 and other conferences

After the success that was Fronteers 2008, Fronteers lost no time in starting up preparations for the next edition of our conference.

Fronteers 2009 will be held on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th of November in Felix Meritis, Amsterdam. Just like last year, it will have a stellar line-up of Dutch and foreign speakers. Please jot down these dates in your agenda; you wouldn’t want to miss this one.

We’re pleased to announce that Steve Souders has agreed to inform us of the latest progress in JavaScript performance, and that Nate Koechley will share his thoughts on the ongoing professionalisation of front-end engineering. The other speakers will be announced later.

Ticket sale will start in May, and Fronteers members will get a hefty discount.

Last year I did about 75% of the organisational work myself. It was a heady experience, especially because I could congratulate myself on a very smooth-running conference, but still the sheer amount of work I did was partly to blame for my total crash at the end of October.

Therefore I’m very glad that four other Fronteers members have joined me in the organisation. I hope to organise only 30 or 40% of the conference this year and leave the rest to other people. Now that would be a luxury.

Other conferences

This is as good a time as any to inform you of my other conference plans.

Unfortunately I will not be going to SxSW this year; I don’t have the money. Besides, I’d like to continue my period of calm for an extra month. I will have a difficult moment when the happy tweets of SxSW goers start showing up in droves, but all in all I think this is the best decision for myself.

My first conference this year will be Voices that Matter Web Design, 27-30 April in San Francisco. That means I’ll have to return to SF; I hope the city is ready for me. I’ll probably speak about JavaScript Events, but I’ll let you know when I’ve taken the final decision.

Otherwise there’s not much on my schedule right now. I hope I’ll be able to visit @media 2009, but that depends on my finances.
